This Tea Caddy is modeled after many from the 18th Century. A bit less ornate and more in my favorite Southern Colonial style, this little box has a secret compartment and is decked out with gorgeous moulded profiles.
The skills covered in this build include laying out and sticking 3 different profiles, wide/box miters, and using dye to create an aged Mahogany finish.

Part 1: Mitering the Box
Wide or box miters don't have to be difficult. I show a free hand and shooting board method.
Part 2: Secret Compartment
Your valuable silver spoon needs a secret spot for storage and that's where this little compartment comes in handy.
Part 3: Mouldings
Here is the heart of the project with 3 different profiles that stack together to make a statement.
Part 4: Hardware & Finish
Add the hinges, and handle and we are off to apply the finish using a mixture of dye and oil based varnish.
As Usual, we build it all with hand tools...
No electrons were harmed during the building of this Tea Caddy. The miters are all hand cut and the moulding profile stuck with hollows and rounds (#6 and #8).
